Continuing subscribers will remember subscriber Jerry Baker's report on hunting Texas desert bighorns last year. (See Article ID 1957.) Since Baker's report, a sheep survey conducted by Texas Parks & Wildlife shows the herd at 1,200 animals, allowing the department to increase the number of permits issued to 15 from the 13 issued last season. Permits are issued directly to landowners, with only three going to a public drawing and one going to the Texas Bighorn Society for auction.
For more information on the special auction permit, contact the society's president, Robert Joseph, at 806-762-0555; or send him an e-mail at icm-lbk@swbell.net. Alternatively, visit their web site at www. texasbighornsociety.org.
