MU 1-15 has produced a number of big grizzlies over the years, including a bruin Klaui says measured 26 13/16 B & C but that has never been entered into the record book. Klaui says his area is unique in that he also has access to Pacific coastal black bears on the islands (an SCI recognized subspecies) as well as the continental black bears on the mainland side of the unit. He says his clients regularly take SCI quality black bears of both species and that brown color phases are available in his area.
Klaui takes a maximum of five grizzly bear hunters a year and about 25 black bear hunters. He also takes around 10 other clients for mountain goat and blacktail deer. He says he hunts strictly trophy quality animals and warns that his hunts aren't cheap, as they are what he describes as high-end affairs. The custom-built yacht he uses houses up to six guests in three double staterooms with ensuite heads and showers, and is staffed with four crew members.
