This fall, Lane will be offering five-day pre-rut archery hunts from October 1 to November 1 at $500. Hunts during the rest of the archery season, which runs through January 1999 except during the two shotgun seasons, will cost $1,250 for 4 1/2 days. The shotgun seasons occur on the weekends before and after Thanksgiving. These hunts will cost $2,500 per weekend. Hunters may choose to hunt one shotgun season and one 4 1/2-day archery hunt in combination for $3,500. All hunts include one doe and one buck. Lane will charge a penalty for bucks with fewer than eight points.
He is really focusing on trophy management, having spent about $6,000 on food plots. Guide service of any amount needed is included, but I recommend bringing your own stand. Accommodations will be in a restored 1865 log cabin that sleeps eight. Clients will receive a dinner voucher for a nearby restaurant that has the best catfish fritters anywhere. For breakfast and lunch, Lane will have clients fill out a grocery shopping list for him to buy before their arrival; clients will prepare their meals in the cabin.
As regards licenses, archery hunters may purchase their licenses over-the-counter upon arrival. Non-resident shotgun hunters must apply for one of a limited number of licenses between mid-July and August, but licenses are usually easy to get. Both types........(continued)
