What may affect your safari to Zambia this year is the unusually heavy rain that has fallen there. Early hunts may be marred by heavy cover, high grass and even limited access into some areas. There are reports that camp-building and the opening up of hunting roads will be delayed in some concessions, perhaps substantially as some camps have reportedly been totally underwater during the height of the rains. Luangwa areas have more open habitat and they tend to drain more quickly than Kafue areas. The bottom line is, if you're the first hunter into an area this year, you may experience limited hunting access and difficult conditions for plains game and buffalo. However, bear in mind that lion and leopard hunts generally have a high success rate early in the season.
