As in past years, would-be hunters need to do all they can to be sure they don't do business with a banned individual, or what is called a Specially Designated Individual (SDN) in Zimbabwe. You can find a list of all the SDNs on the web site of the US Treasury Department's Office Of Foreign Assets Control. Type OFAC on the search line of Google and click on SDN List Sorted By Sanctions Program. You'll have to scroll all the way to the bottom to get to Zimbabwe SDNs. It's important to note that not all SDNs are individuals; some are entities such as ranches (Ulva Farm, for example) and businesses (Zvinavashe Investments, Ltd., for example).
It is impossible for an individual hunter to be sure his would-be outfitter is clean, of course, but asking about this issue at the time of booking is important. In fact, I recommend that all US clients go one step farther and ask their agent and/or outfitter for written assurance that they are aware of the SDN List, have studied it and have made every effort to be sure your funds won't wind up in the........(continued)
