Obviously, if you have a hunt booked in Mozambique for buffalo or a CITES animal elephant, leopard or crocodile you need to ask your intended PH if he has you scheduled to hunt a provincial concession. If he does, ask how he intends to deal with the above-mentioned development.
So, where is the slashed quota going? It's being redistributed to the two approved CAMPFIRE programs on the south bank of the Zambezi River and west of Lake Cabora Bassa; to the country's 15 approved safari areas (called coutadas in Mozambique); to the approved hunting blocks around the Niassa Game Reserve; and to registered game farms. The reassignment of quota is being promoted as an effort to rein in uncontrolled hunting in Mozambique. What remains to be seen is how forcefully the above quota shifts are going to be enforced. For sure, there is the potential here for a lot of clients and PHs to be left high and dry. A word to the wise should be sufficient here.
Still in Mozambique, there is some bad news on elephant imports. Seems The US Fish & Wildlife Service's Division of Management Authority has upheld a denial it previously issued of a request to import into the US an elephant taken in Mozambique. The import request on behalf of Hunting Report subscriber Lawrence A. Franks was handled by Conservation Force's John J.
