First, it is important to remember who Cam Grieg is. He is one of those die-hard fanatical hunters who still takes part in chasse libre (or self-outfitted hunting) in West Africa, mostly in Cameroon these days but formerly in CAR as well. Grieg has unbelievable contacts in West Africa and a sense of news when it comes to hunting areas.
I say all that because some of what follows sounds too good to be true. If I had received the material from most anyone else, I would probably dismiss it. Frankly, even coming from Cam Grieg, I'm an agnostic, albeit a mightily interested one. Maybe you will be, too. Cam Grieg writes:
"I have recently become aware of a very exciting possibility for true adventure and some spectacular game. Through my chasse libre connections, I have gotten to know a family that lives in CAR. The father drilled wells in remote areas. He is an avid hunter, and he raised his son, with such a good outdoor education that he went on to become the youngest licensed PH in CAR.
"After six years of working for others, Erik tells me he recently got the bug to get a concession of his own, in an area beyond where others are operating. Existing concessions are `too civilized,' he told me, going on to say that he was sure there are untapped areas in CAR.
"He started his quest for a new area by using satellite maps to identify potential zones. He then purchased micro-light airplanes and flew over the inaccessible areas that looked promising. From the air, he says he had a perfect view of game trails, human encroachment, etc.........(continued)
