Fortunately the Department's Block Management Program has opened approximately 3,000,000 acres of this private land to public hunting. In all, 290 landowners in the region participate in the program. The regional office you need to contact here is in Miles City. Ask for a copy of the guide for Region 7 of the Block Management Program. You'll find it contains a map of the entire region showing the counties, major cities and major highways, plus the hunting districts. It also contains county-by-county maps showing the species of game present, the number of acres in each ranch, the dates open for hunting, the district in which the land is located, the general location within the county and the landowner identification number. The names of the landowners are not listed. This is done to save the landowner the harassment of multiple telephone calls or visits.
When you settle on the ranches you would like to consider, contact the department, and, using the landowner identification numbers from the guide, request the names and telephone numbers of the landowners you want to call. The........(continued)
