Who Took Big Elephants In Zimbabwe?Published: March - 1998 Who took big elephants in Zimbabwe last season, and where were they taken? The following list, provided by the helpful folks at the ZATSO (Zimbabwe Association of Tour and Safari Operators) booth at the recent Safari Club International Convention is not exhaustive, but it sure contains some food for thought: Best elephant taken in 1997 was an 89 x 81-pounder taken in the Deka Safari Area by Matapula Hunters; Ngamo Safaris took 76-pounders in Intundla and in Kazuma and three 60-pounders in Unit 6-Matetsi and Kazuma; Shangani Safari (Lloyd Yeatman and Nixon Dzingai) took a 74-pounder, a 66-pounder and five elephants in the 50 to 55-pound range in the Malapati Concession in southeast Zimbabwe; Ingwe Safaris took a 70 x 72-pounder in Matetsi (Riverside Ranch); Tshabezi Safaris took a 68-pounder and a 58-pounder in the Mahenya area in the southeast Lowveld and a 55 and 52-pounder in Gokwe; Jannie Meyer of Lowveld Safaris took a - 70-pounder and a 64-pounder in the Runde River area of southeast Lowveld; Bulembi Safaris took a 76-pounder in the Omay area near Kariba; and HHK Safaris took a 60-pounder and a 57-pounder in the Gonagodzingwa area in the southeast part of Zimbabwe.
