The special permits we're talking about are governors' and commissioners' permits. Every state has its own guidelines for issuing special permits, and many of these permits go to smaller sportsmen's organizations that lack the ability to advertise their permits successfully. Many are offered at auction, just like at the national conventions but with a much smaller audience. And here's the good news -- nearly all will accept telephone bids. Simply call the contact person listed, identify your permit, and they will either call you, or have you call a special bid line when the item is offered.
Here at The Hunting Report, we asked correspondent Dale Toweill to canvass the Western states recently and put together a list of over 100 of these special permits. We have posted all of these permits on our web site (www.huntingreport.com) under "Other Hunting News."
The sheer volume of permits available precluded us from checking out every permit to see when each one will be offered, but our detailed listing provides e-mail and telephone numbers so interested subscribers can follow up on specific permits of interest. The states offering special permits include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Do not fail to take a look at this list. There are some real opportunities available!
