The only real news here is about Gambella, the area in the southwest that was expected to be open to hunting this past year. Local conflict there caused a postponement of the opening that has now turned into a possible cancellation of hunting plans. I don't look for anything to happen in Gambella in the intermediate future.
A hunt here that collectors of unusual trophies may want to look into is the one Jason Roussos, Nassos' son, is conducting on Lake Chamo, where some absolutely huge Nile crocodiles are being taken. Elliott says five in all were taken this past season, all of them 17 feet or longer. The two largest measured 18 feet two inches and 18 feet seven inches. A hunt for Chamo crocodiles will be among the hunts offered on auction at the SCI Convention.
Still in Ethiopia, if you are one of those fanatics about African hunting who simply can't get enough information, I just heard of a web site and related newsletter that deals with conservation issues in Ethiopia, particularly as they relate to mountain nyala. The web address is: www.murulle.org.
