The final place where noteworthy elephants have been taken is Zambia. Two jumbo in the 60-pound class have reportedly been taken, but the only one we can confirm is a 57.42 x 62.26-pounder taken in Chiawa GMA in the Lower Zambezi by Pedro Oca Centol, a Spanish client of Royal Zambezi Wildlife. The PH was Chris Muuka, with Zimbabwe PH Adrian Reed in attendance. Royal Zambezi Wildlife can be contacted by e-mail. The second jumbo was reportedly taken in Rufunsa, by a client hunting with Baobab Safaris, PH Attie Crause. More details in a future issue.
In all, Zambia has a quota of 20 elephants this year. It remains to be seen if any sleeper giants will be taken. US clients interested in Zambia need to remember that ivory from that country has not been approved for import into the US.
