Still in South Africa, by the time you read this, there will be quite likely be a crescendo of complaints about the time it is taking to get guns into the country. I was hearing of multi-hour waits in the airport by the end of last month. There were fears waiting times could stretch to four hours or more as the number of arriving hunters increases. My advice is to plan for this eventuality. Don't book a tight onward connection. Get off the plane resigned to your fate. Do not get angry or impatient.
In the midst of this turmoil, we have learned that Johan Coetzer, formally of the airport Meet and Greet Service, Optima, has left that firm and started his own company devoted to helping hunters get their guns into and out of the country. Coetzer earned many rave reviews while at Optima. With him no longer at Optima, we withdraw our previous recommendation of the company as anything more than a general airport expeditor service.
