Reached at press time, Wilson said Weth was still optimistic about opening hunting this summer. He, however, was taking a more cautious approach. I will be glad to talk to anyone about Uganda, but I'm not taking formal bookings or sending information out about hunting there.
He said he had offered to send the deposits back to the four booked clients, but all four wanted to leave their money in place in the interest of being first in line if the country opens. He said he had about 50 people who had expressed interest in hunting Uganda. Interestingly, Wilson said he was no longer sending printed information out about hunting in Uganda because Uganda Wildlife Authorities had complained about his doing so. Those complaints also caused him to remove all material about Uganda hunting from the hunting section of his web site).
What do I make of all this? Uganda, like Democratic Republic of Congo, is a tough nut to crack. Anti-hunters are very powerful in Uganda, and it is anyone's guess whether Weth and Wilson can break their hammerlock on government. I hope they can do it, but I'm not about to hold my breath in the meantime.
