Although Golden, It's Still Just A SpringbokPublished: November - 2004 This report has been excerpted from a larger article. If you would like to see the entire article from which this excerpt was taken, contact us and ask for item #1382. Next door in South Africa, be advised that Safari Club International has decided not to create a new category for the so-called golden springbok. We mentioned this possibility last month, only to receive word near press time that the answer is no - there will not be any recognition of these animals as a separate subspecies. Upon reviewing the data submitted on golden springboks, the SCI Trophy Records Committee has decided that this animal is only a color phase of the springbok. A golden springbok from South Africa submitted to the SCI records department will continue to be classified as a South African springbok. We have that from Michael Robinson, world hunting awards coordinator for SCI. The decision was made at the August Board of Directors Meeting just after we went to press with our story in the October issue. Regardless of SCI's decision, the animal is a beautiful trophy. If you have not done so already, check out the Trophy Gallery section of our web site (www.huntingreport .com) for a photograph of a golden springbok.
