Remember that operator we recently told you about in Burkina Faso named Ricardo Julia? He has access to a privately-managed game park near the Benin border. Subscriber Jack Bierley hunted buffalo and roan with him this past January and reported that Julia has good numbers of lion on the concession. We promised to look into the quality of those lions, as we have heard that cats in Burkina Faso are generally maneless. When we contacted Julia recently, he conceded that maned lions in his area are a rarity, but he claims to have seen a few with full, black manes in the Pama area of the country along the Singou and Pendjary rivers. What is really interesting about the lions in his area, he says, is their size. He says he has personally hunted a lion that was 10½ feet long and almost four feet tall at the shoulder. That would indeed be a larger that usual lion, as most cats in the rest of Africa run from 8½ to 10 feet in length and 3 1/3 to four feet in height. Subscriber Jack Bierley, you
