Well, note this. To import a firearm into South Africa you now have to provide more paperwork, and it has to be generated ahead of time. The new paperwork consists of what's called a Motivation Letter From Client; an Invitation Letter from Hunting Outfitter; and, for those importing a handgun, a "letter from an association in the country of origin stating the handgun will be used for hunting purposes."
The first letter mentioned above is a typed letter from you (the client) stating that you are temporarily importing certain referred-to firearms for the purpose of hunting. The letter must state that the firearms are required for the type of hunting you will be doing, and it must include a list of the animal species you will be seeking. Include make, model, caliber and serial number of all the firearms you want to import.
The second letter (the one from the outfitter) must state that you will indeed be hunting with the referred-to outfitter and that the firearms you are importing are appropriate for the hunting you will be doing. The letter must include the full name of the company and full contact details of the company. It must also say where and when you (the client) will be hunting.
