Another requirement you may not know about is that New Zealand also wants sportsmen to provide a firearms license from their home country, along with a "good conduct" letter. We confirmed that requirement with Paul Gatland of the New Zealand Police. In an e-mail, he writes, "Yes, you will need to provide evidence from your local police that you don't have any convictions for violence or firearms-related offenses." As for a firearms license, which Americans don't have, of course, Gatland says Americans can simply provide any hunting license or permit, a concealed weapons permit or a hunters safety course certificate that shows you have received firearms safety training from a "reputable" organization. Glavish says he provided his last hunting license when he arrived in New Zealand for a hunt this past season and had no problems.
