This outfit is the only blacktail operation that I can recommend in my own home state. In the past, there have been a number of "fly-by-night" outfits here, and even some that were downright crooks, so I have been reluctant to report on blacktail outfitters in Oregon, even though some of the biggest bucks have been shot here. That has changed since Southern Oregon Game Busters started offering hunts.
They have produced a number of giant bucks for their clients, including two monsters taken by fellow writer, Bob Robb. Let me preface my comments by offering the opinion that a trophy blacktail is the most difficult deer trophy to kill. I've hunted them all, including taking over a half-dozen so-called "deer slams," but a big blacktail still stands out in my mind above the others in the challenge of the hunt. When I learned that Southern Oregon Game Busters was consistently taking big blacktail bucks, I was at first skeptical. Before I was willing to accept that this outfitter was legitimate, I talked to a number of local hunters, law enforcement officers and some of their past clients.
So what is their secret? Well, I had a chance to spend several days with Doug and Janet recently and found that it is simple - they work hard. They scout constantly, as well as hunt harder than most other outfitters, and it is their full-time job, not a part-time hobby. It doesn't hurt that they live in the middle of some of the best blacktail country Oregon has to offer. This allows them to keep close tabs on bucks, even to the extent that they name some they find while scouting, often keeping track........(continued)
