Lately, there is increasing talk about du Plessis being alive and well, and perhaps living in Kenya. We have no idea whether the rumors about him are true, but the talk in that direction is growing, not dying down. We would love to hear from anyone who can provide substantive information about du Plessis.
In the meantime, we are indebted to subscriber Chuck Swenson for an important e-mail (api@apioregon .com) relating to du Plessis' operation in Tanzania and what will happen to it. It will be very heartening indeed to clients who booked safaris with du Plessis this year and next. Swensen sent us the following e-mail late last month as soon as he got back from a safari to Tanzania that was handled for him by one of du Plessis' PHs, namely Richard Brebner. Swenson writes:
"When I arrived in Dar Es Salaam for my safari, my wife and I were met by Richard Brebner (a PH for Jaco Du Plessis Safaris) and Chris Hatty (one of the owners of a company called Zuka Safaris). We were informed that our gun permits and hunting licenses, etc. had not been bought and that there was no money in the Du Plessis account to get them. We could go home, stay in Zanzibar or pay $1,750 to acquire everything and proceed as planned on our safari.
"Another hunter, Emory Rey- nolds of Oklahoma City, was booked into the same time slot I was, but only one PH was available (Richard Brebner). They told us we would have to hunt 2 x 1 instead of 1 x 1, unless they were able to find another PH. Ultimately, Reynolds and I hunted 2 x 1 for the first four days of our........(continued)
