At press time, Sally Bown of ZATSO (Zimbabwe Association of Tourist and Safari Operators) said prospects for the year are generally good, despite the ongoing political turmoil. She said the country, overall, was about 75 percent booked, with some operators so fully booked they are turning back clients while others are "still struggling."
Barring something unforeseen, she predicated a repeat of last year's generally successful season. That echoes our assessment exactly, with the caveat that booked subscribers need to watch international newscasts closely in the weeks leading up to their safaris. Also, no one should go to Zimbabwe, in our view, without staying in direct, regular contact with an on-the-ground operator he trusts.
