What occasions our mention of the program here is a letter we just got from U.S. Hunting Report subscriber Royce Hudspeth, who hunted an oryx this past March with a landowner tag through outfitter Brazos River Ranch. He has this to say about the hunt: "I am a subscriber to The Hunting Report and U.S. Hunting Report, and I read with great interest your report last month on the new hunts now available for oryx through Landowner Permits. I recently completed such a hunt in March and, as you can see by the attached Hunt Report Form, I was able to take a very large oryx. This particular animal will score somewhere about 12th or 13th in the Safari Club International record book. In all candor, this was the most exciting hunt that I have been on in the US. We hunted a 40,000-acre ranch, and I was impressed with the challenge of finding an animal so well camouflaged and hard to pattern. On the third day of the hunt, we actually stalked an animal eight miles! Just as you do in Africa, we checked the freshness of the droppings and were ultimately able to catch-up with it and get the job done.
You listed two hunting outfits in your article last month, and I would like to highly recommend a third - namely, Brazos........(continued)
