The Camerons specialize in organizing hunting itineraries where runholders (the Kiwi word for high-country farmers) guide clients on their own properties. In New Zealand, the best hunting areas are on private land, where access is strictly controlled, so this new venture puts clients on properties that have some of the largest undisturbed game herds in the country. Moreover, it puts clients in the field with some of New Zealand's best hunters, at prices traditional outfitters cannot begin to meet.
The Camerons decided to create Pure New Zealand Hunting after they received numerous requests from outfitters wishing to bring overseas clients on to their holding. The Camerons own Puhi Peaks station, a large high-country property situated in the mountains of the South Island's East Coast. Cameron says he knew his own hunting skills were the equal of any outfitter. He also knew the flora, fauna and history of his own land better than any visiting outfitter would. This is the case with the other property owners he books hunts for.
The concept has been so well received that, at this writing, the Camerons are booking for 10 huge properties offering big game and bird hunts, as well as trout fishing expeditions. The greatest thing about booking a hunt through this agency is that they will move you from area to area, changing expert guides as you go, so that the end result is a string of several adventures under the umbrella of one trip.
