Not least among the interesting aspects of Sitka blacktail hunting is that these deer are so numerous that they can sustain bag limits that are generally not less than two deer, and can range up to four or more, with the seasonal possession limit on the Queen Charlottes being 10. There is some talk now of raising that to 15! What these big bag limits mean is, a Sitka blacktail hunter can take a first deer right off the bat, then settle down to concentrate on finding a genuine trophy. Add to all that, leisurely seasons that usually run from late summer into early winter, and, depending on the time of the year, deer that can be hunted anywhere from alpine meadows above the treeline to right down on the beaches. Hunting methods can involve transportation by anything from foot to boats to ATVs.

Among the more luxurious of the Alaskan hunts for sitka blacktail are those offered by outfitter Jimmie Rosenbruch of Glacier Guides, Inc. aboard his 78-foot transoceanic yacht, The Alaskan Grandeur, launched in 2001.........(continued)
