In the meantime, Mattanovich assures us that the US government supports the emergence of New Sudan and has given a green light to the long-term development of a hunting opportunity for Americans and others in this region. The attitude of the US government toward New Sudan is important because the US currently has air-tight commercial sanctions against Sudan, similar to those in Iran. In that connection, Doug Scandrol of Swanepoel & Scandrol, has asked The Hunting Report to make it clear that his company is honoring the current sanctions and has not entered into any agreements with officials anywhere in Sudan.
Much more about this evolving opportunity was scheduled to be revealed at the Safari Club International Convention in Reno, where Mattanovich had plans to discuss it at a seminar. A New Sudan official was to be among the speakers at the seminar.
