"U.S. Hunting Report subscribers may be interested to know that Great Western Hunting Club President, John Andersen, has been in Utah recently, and we have been visiting some of the leases he is lining up. I'll have a complete update on those leases posted on my website soon (www.hunts.net). In the meantime, let me just make special mention of one lease in Idaho that looks particularly promising. When Andersen and I visited it, we saw a herd of 26 bull elk, and I don't think there was a spike in the bunch. The rancher showed us a shed antler of a bull that would go 330, I would guess, and he said he sees several bigger bulls on the ranch every year. This is a general archery area for any bull, and rifle hunters have to apply for one of 225 tags in this and two other units combined. The deer hunting is down, but the rancher thought that five or six good hunters should be able to find 24- to 27-inch bucks. Bowhunters will be able to hunt both muleys and elk together. The elk archery hunt runs the entire month of September, and the club will allow two to four hunters on the ranch during each half of the season. These hunts are strictly unguided.
As for the leases we visited here in Utah, all are pretty much together........(continued)
