Link says he shot his monster bull about 20 miles from camp, and it took three days to pack him out with his guide. He reports skiing a total of 170 miles during the whole trip, warning that hunters must be in excellent condition for this hunt. He says the region is low mountainous terrain with lots of wooded areas, making the skiing a real "endurance test." Link gives his operator a high rating, and describes the guides as "excellent." He reports that his guide was involved in the moose re-introduction project that took place here almost 20 years ago and was very knowledgeable about the animals and their habitat.
Link says the accommodations on this hunt were basic, with generator power but no running water, and that the food was good, but that the skis and other equipment were in "rough" shape. He gives the cost of the hunt as $9,500 for 14 days, not including airfare, hotel and meals on each end of the trip and charter helicopter charges. He says the helicopter costs about $2,000 to fly from Petropavlosk to the camp and back.
