Clients Searching For
George Sevich, Eurasian Expeditions
Where is George Sevich of Eurasian Expeditions, and why is he not getting back to a growing number of clients who have sent him deposits or full payments for hunts? Others who hunted with him in the past are trying to find out about their trophies. Here at The Hunting Report, we have located him in State of Maryland, working at communications center on an US Army Base. The latest article we wrote about him appears below. After you have read it, read what affected subscribers have to say abou Sevich. Then, file a comment of your own.
Update On George Sevich
(posted August 10, 2007)
The more than 20 Hunting Report subscribers who have filed complaints about deposits and hunting fees owed to them by George Sevich will be interested to know that we have been in touch with him again since our bulletin last week telling you where he is and what he is doing. Unfortunately, he is not being very forthcoming, as witness the e-mail below which he sent us this morning - after we called and reminded him that he had promised to send us a note this week giving his contact details and spelling out how he was going to make things right with the many clients he is said to have hurt.
Indeed, Sevich simply disappeared about a year ago, you'll recall, leaving a large number of mostly American clients in the lurch for hunting fees and unshipped trophies. Our reader forum devoted to the problem attracted more than 20 comments, all but one of them from disgruntled clients. A quick reading of the forum this morning indicates that the 20-some clients who commented claim they have been defrauded of $183,500. That is just the sums mentioned in the forum, mind you. Some commentators did not bother to mention a sum. Others indicated they have unspecified amounts (many thousands of dollars, surely) tied up in trophies they have not received. The actual amount of claimed damage may well be a half million dollars, perhaps more.
Here at The Hunting Report, we have watched scandals like this break over the international hunting community with dismaying regularity in recent years, almost always with no real consequences for the alleged perpetrators. We have come to believe these unresolved scandals are very bad for hunting, as they erode the basic confidence individuals need to send money overseas. International hunting, after all, is not conducted with safeguards such as Letters Of Credit and Guaranty Bonds. Ultimately, most individuals who book international hunts do so on the basis of a handshake and a contract that is probably not enforceable internationally. Dry up the basic confidence of international hunters and this business is going to be over, it appears to us.
With that in mind, we decided to do some digging today and turned up some facts that may be useful for anyone who wants to try to pursue a claim against George Sevich. First, we know that George Sevich and Anne M. Haldeman are on the property tax rolls in Montgomery County, Maryland, as owner of a home located at 16232 Orchard View Ct., Gaithersburg, MD 20878. The 2,438-square-foot home was built in 1986. It sits on a 14,820-square-foot lot and was valued at $637,800 as of 01/01/07.
As we told you last week, he works at a communications station on the Ft. Dietrich Army Base. Presumably, he is a government employee. His work telephone number is 301-619-7411. His e-mail address is: george.ru.mail@gmail.com.
Here at The Hunting Report, we'd appreciate being kept in the loop if anyone decides to mount a collection effort. We do know one disgruntled client has already retained a lawyer in Maryland, but we are not ready to pass his name on, as that attorney has not impressed us, or the subscriber who retained him, with his efforts. One way to proceed here is for all disgruntled clients to network their claim. They can do so by going to our forum. All of the commentators there left their e-mail addresses. Good luck! - Don Causey.

Okay, Sevich is raising a ruckus at work trying to figure out who has "ratted him out". Incidentally, I am not your original source, but there are very few people that work at this facility, so please be kind. Why I am actually typing this is that George Sevich may possibly bolt to another job soon, so I felt I should point out that any job he is looking at requires a security clearance, of "secret" or what is called TSC. In order to keep these clearances, one must have good financial standing or be making a suitable effort to reach good standing (e.g., paying off debts). The Fort Detrick Post number (Sevich works at Fort Detrick) is 800-256-7621. If one were to request to speak to the security office (the one that handles clearance investigations), and informed them that a civilian employee at one of their facilities (Sevich works at the satellite link to Russia - aka Russian Link) had financial obligations he was not meeting, that civilian employee's clearance would be flagged. You cannot shake a flagged clearance by switching jobs. Some other numbers that may work, if the operator is unhelpful, are: Intelligence (Security) 301-619-3302 ; Provost Marshal Non Emergency 301-619-4570; Personnel Civilian 301-619-2247; Internal Review (IRAC) 301-619-7287; Investigations (PMO) 301-619-2810. I don't have a personal grudge against George Sevich unless you count the fact he has ripped people off and I don't like that. |

In an e-mail anonymously forwarded to us on September 5, Australian Chris Nash, who is a partner of some kind with George Sevich, addresses a number of hunters who have deposits, hunts and trophies pending with Sevich. In his message, he tells readers that he does not believe Sevich has simply come up with an excuse to scam hunters and take their money and run. On the contrary, he says Sevich is experiencing emotional problems stemming from an unspecified family tragedy compounded by the stress involved in running two businesses – one of those being his hunting business. Nash goes on to say he himself has been affected financially by the problems Sevich is having. Nash says that Sevich is conscious of the situation, and that he was on track to handle things this past June, but somehow was derailed again and has not recovered. He says he and two other friends and clients of Sevich have been able to speak with him, and that Sevich seemed buoyed by their conversations and is in the process of receiving assistance. Nash remains hopeful that Sevich will be able to turn things around yet. If you would like to receive a copy of Nash’s e-mail, contact him directly at the address given above. |

I shot a new World Record Kamchatka brown bear back in May 2002 on a hunt I booked with George Sevich. After that hunt, I booked with him a hunt in Kazakhstan for maral stag. Wally Kilburg, a hunting buddy of mine from the Chicago area, and I shared a camp with another hunter, Jon Shiesl. Since that hunt was not in the border zone area as promised, and a complete waste of our time, George offered all three of us future compensation ($5,000 each) on another hunt. After the SCI convention in January 2005, I sent George $10,000 to be able to go to Kyrgyzstan and shoot a Marco Polo sheep and take an ibex. So at that point, I had a $15,000 credit, and I knew I would have to give him more money right before the hunt in November 2005. Since there were no CITES permits, the hunt got pushed back to November 2006. Wally Kilburg was also going to go on his $5,000 credit, and just hunt for an ibex, as he did not want a Marco Polo. Obviously Fish and Wildlife declined my permit and did not send me a CITIES permit for this year. Several weeks before that SCI had sent out an e-mail stating that there would be no permits given out this year for Marco Polo in Kyrgyzstan. So I sent that info to George Sevich and have never heard back from him again! On the plus side, Wally and I had not booked airline tickets yet, so now we can only hope that George reschedules us for next November 2007 when and if permits are available. I have sent George two e-mails since I saw your article, but have received no e-mails back from George. The last e-mail I received from George was on July 14, 2006 after he returned to the US. |
