Three subscribers have checked in with hunting reports on
Mongolia for argali, ibex, gazelle, plus roe deer and wolf. The first report is from Jose Marti (
Report ID 8836) who traveled from Spain to Mongolia this past September and hunted three different areas: Altai for Siberian ibex, Gobi for Gobi ibex and Hangai for Mongolian gazelle. He hunted with Mongol Tour Resort, booking directly through operators Galaa (gbaranz@yahoo.com) and his son Odgi (

For the first part of his hunt, Marti flew from Ulaanbataar to Hovd in western Mongolia to hunt the Altai Range. Reaching camp involved a six-hour jeep ride. Hunting was conducted by driving to the mountains and then walking to spot game. Marti says the walking is not difficult and that they spotted a group of three good Siberian ibex rams after about three hours. His guide, Bolt, spotted the ibex from about 900 yards. Marti says it took an hour to get within 367 yards. "We could not go any further without being detected," he says, "So, Bolt told me to shoot." Marti says a neck shot was his only option, and he succeeded in taking the ibex. It scores 110 SCI (record book minimum is 80).
The following day, they moved south to the Gobi area, where he says the "harder" habitat keeps the Gobi ibex from developing as much as those in the Altai Range. Again, he says they drove out to the mountains, but instead of climbing to spot game, Marti says they spotted game from below. "The mountains weren't high, and we could nearly see the whole range from our position," he says.....
