Last month we told you we were tracking down a story on an outfitter who had lost his license. That outfitter is Cody, Wyoming-based B. Joe Coy of Yellow Creek Outfitting, who has been a prominent figure in western US hunting for over two decades and a regular supporter of Dallas Safari Club, Safari Club International, the Wild Sheep Foundation and other such organizations. According to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Coy has lost his guiding and outfitting license for a period of three years. He was convicted, fined and ordered to relinquish his licenses when he pled guilty to five wildlife violations in Wyoming on February 15, 2012. The Department issued a press release on March 5, 2012.
We began looking into Coy's situation when we received an email in July from long-time subscriber Bernie Sippin, who said, in part: "I had recommended B. Joe Coy to four hunting friends of mine. B. Joe took their deposits, a total of $9,000, and now is giving them a whole lot of B.S. but not sending them back their money. He lost his Wyoming guide and outfitter licenses because of violations he committed, and cannot take the hunters on the hunt. I am under the impression that other hunters were also taken advantage of by him. I would hope you could make other subscribers aware of this problem.....
