Though the Scandinavian countries have a long and rich hunting tradition, and we get a number of reports from our Scandinavian subscribers, we typically don't get many reports about actually hunting there. Now we have a report from US subscriber Peter Feuerle, who hunted
roe deer and
wild boar in
Sweden for five days in June with guide/outfitter Stefan Bengtsson of
Scandinavian Prohunters (phone from the US 011-46-470-33-445), a new name for us. He reports seeing plenty of game, and taking a "very good, possibly bronze" roe deer and two very good wild boar. Guiding, lodging, food and trophy care were all excellent, he reports. He flew with his gun on United from Newark to Stockholm without incident, his outfitter having pre-arranged the necessary Swedish gun permit. Here's how Feuerle described the experience in his report and in a follow-up phone call:
"I've hunted 15 US states, four provinces in Canada, 12 times in Africa, plus Scotland and Turkey. In Sweden, I discovered a new hunting destination with great potential where English is widely understood. My outfitter, Stefan Bengtsson, is an accredited wildlife manager (which, in Sweden, requires extensive schooling and a lengthy apprenticeship).....
