Subscriber Jeff Passmore successfully hunted black bears in
Idaho in early May with
Heaven's Gate Outfitters (208-628-2783;) and promptly wrote to tell us that things have really changed for the better there. The last time we heard about this outfit was in 2008, when subscriber Chris Hoellwarth turned thumbs down on a lion hunt due to the attitude and behavior of then owner/operator Darwin Vander Eisch. Heaven's Gate is now under new ownership. "The current owner is Andy Savage," Passmore tells us. "Andy and his wife Karen bought the operation in 2009. They relocated from New Hampshire, where Andy had hunted, trapped and run hounds his whole life.....
