The lead story in our December issue was a complete overview of the current state of caribou hunting in
Quebec, where the crash of the George River Herd put many outfitters out of business and has left the others scrambling. We attempted to identify and contact every outfitter still offering hunts and give the reader a snapshot of who is doing what and where. In that overview we included several excerpts from reports we have on hand which, we felt, bolstered the reader's understanding. We simply didn't have space to print the reports in their entirety.
The two subscribers who filed glowing reports on hunts with Jack Hume Adventures (877-563-3832) let us know that our brief excerpts simply had not done justice to Hume's outfit. So, we are publishing those reports now.
Subscriber Eric Stevens, who hunted the Leaf River Herd with Hume in mid-September, hit the migration at its peak. "We saw 2,000 caribou in three days of hunting," he says. "Lots of large bulls. Also about two-thirds of all cows had calves with them......
