Perhaps because the Marine Mammal Protection Act bans the importation of walrus tusks into the US, we get very few reports on walrus hunting. In our May 2011 issue (see
Report 8148 in our database), New Zealander Glen Steen reported on an exciting Atlantic walrus hunt near Coral Harbor, Nunavut, Canada. Steen saw pods of walrus numbering 300 animals or more before taking a bull with 19.6-inch tusks.
His walrus measured over 10½ feet in length with a girth of more than nine feet. Steen, of course, was able to take his trophy home.....
