The Hunting Report as an independent, subscription-driven watchdog for hunting consumers. But many hunters (not all, by any means) might welcome another ally in the search for the right hunt… say a "personal hunting consultant" or "hunting concierge" who works directly for the hunter and not anyone in the hunting business.
Back in February, 2011, Senior Western Correspondent Lance Stapleton reported on one such consultant, Elvin "Hawk" Hawkins (541-245-0773) a former outfitter who now functions as a personal hunting consultant for hunters interested in the western US and Canada. Unlike a booking agent, who is paid a commission by the outfitter, Hawkins' services are fee-based. The hunter pays for only the service he or she needs, whether that's help with identifying a place to hunt, preparing permit applications, or contacting and arranging a hunt with the best outfitter in the area. In any case, Hawkins has only one client - the hunter.....
