Columbia whitetail deer just came off the Endangered Species List in 2003 and is available only in Oregon. We have three hunt reports in our database (IDs 5124, 5044 and 7488) on this subspecies, and three articles (IDs 1477, 1454 and 1572). So, we took special note when subscriber W. Laird Hamberlin filed a report on this species with an outfitter we’ve never covered before. Hamberlin hunted Columbia whitetail deer near Roseburg, with SDA Outfitters (www.sdaoutfittersllc.com; 514-460-9703). Hamberlin learned of the outfitter from Brian Box of Outdoor Pursuit (800-487-0045; www.theoutdoorpursuit.com). He told Box he was looking for a hunt to coincide with a business trip. Box suggested he contact SDA about hunting this unique trophy. Hamberlin is pursuing the SCI world hunting award and felt this trophy would be a good addition to his collection. There are only 18 entries in the SCI record book for Columbia whitetail deer, and Hamberlin’s is the new number six at 118 2/8 SCI.....
