Here at The Hunting Report we love to say “we told you so” when a featured outfitter keeps coming through big-time for our subscribers. Thanks to Kansas resident and correspondent, Michael Pearce, we’ve been covering deer hunting in the state of Kansas since they first opened to nonresident deer hunters in 1994. With the Kansas deer season winding down, we asked Pearce for a quick update, and he sent us big news on outfitter J.R. Dienst (620-355-7118; www.jrdienst.com).
Dienst has been featured in three articles in this newsletter (see Article IDs 2435, 2236, and 1946 in our database). Year after year, he’s run an enviable string of successful hunts on trophy whitetails and mule deer for clients. The past few years this longtime Hunting Report subscriber and world-wide hunter has been on fire when it comes to trophy mulies. Last year his best buck was a 254-inch non-typical taken during the September muzzleloader season. He’s still on a roll.
Dienst’s first client this September was none other than Garth Carter, who shot a 221-inch mulie less than two hours into his first day of hunting. You can see a photo of this MONSTER buck in our Trophy Gallery. The very next day Dienst guided two hunters to a bachelor group of great bucks bedded in low cover. The hunters and Dienst sat within 40 yards of the trophies until the bucks eventually stood and offered shots. One green-scored 207 inches and the other 191 inches, gross. Earlier this month Dienst guided his first archery hunter of the season to a 196-inch gross buck that was bedded with another buck that was nearly as big.....
