I recently heard disturbing news about a Quebec-Labrador caribou outfit that I have reported on several times, namely Nunami Outfitters in Quebec. It seems Peter Palmer is no longer associated with them. The long-term implications of this are not clear yet, but I would be remiss if I did not report on this development.
Continuing subscribers will remember I first reported on Nunami Outfitters in 1998, before they had ever conducted their first commercial hunt. They had hired Peter Palmer as the operation’s general manager. Palmer had a great deal of caribou experience, having worked as a Quebec biologist for years before switching to the commercial side of hunting. He immediately surrounded himself with experienced personnel, such as his first head guide, Roger Tramblay, who had personally guided a hunter to the SCI World Record caribou in 1983. Palmer spent a great deal of time making sure all of his guides were trophy-conscious. But that is not all that made this outfit stand out.
At least three key factors made this outfit unique among other Quebec outfitters.....
