Over in Pakistan, it seems that the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department has shut down all hunting and shooting in that province. According to an article in the Pakistani online newspaper The International News, the local government closed hunting due to a “sharp decline” in the population of most wild animals and bird species. Punjab is the province where hunts for Punjab urial take place. To find out what was happening, we contacted operator Anchan Mirza of Karakurum Treks & Tours (
karakurm@isb.comsats.net.pk), who opened hunting in the Punjab for international hunters in 2005. He says that although poaching in the area still exists, it has decreased significantly since he began working with local communities there to protect urial for sport hunting.....
