You know what it’s like. You apply for licenses in several states out West and find out you didn’t draw in any of them. Now what? I suggest you immediately look into the list of licenses left over after the drawings. I never did before because I assumed these were mostly doe and fawn licenses. Boy was I wrong! There are plenty of buck licenses on those lists; the problem is that they are mostly for areas that are mostly private property. Turns out that’s not a problem either, as many landowners in Wyoming at least are looking to capitalize on this by offering access to their properties for as little as $100 in some instances.
I learned how to take advantage of all this last year when my hunting partner and I struck out in the Wyoming draw. We wanted to hunt pronghorn antelope. Desperate for a solution, we first tried Butch Manasse Outdoor Adventures (307-637-5495) who has gotten us on good last-minute hunts in the past. Manasse knows his way around the permit situation. Unfortunately, his antelope outfitters were booked up, he said. But then, as an afterthought, he mentioned how there were plenty of buck antelope licenses left over from the draw. He suggested that we check out the list of landowners maintained by the Gillette Chamber of Commerce.....
