Gardner flew into Prince George, where he and his hunting partner were picked up by the outfitter for the five-hour drive to base camp. Gardner describes the lodge there, the cabins where they stayed and the food as "excellent." They used boats, pickups, or horses to access the hunt areas, depending on where they were headed.
Gardner says, "For bears, you might need a long uphill stalk. It all depends on where the animal is located." They bumped into his grizzly on a black bear kill the first day of the hunt. It charged, and Gardner shot the eight-foot bear at 15 yards. "It is an experience I will never forget," he says....
