Oct., in conjunction with a long-planned family vacation to Kauai, I
gave Pat Fisher a call and booked an axis deer hunt on the island of

many years ago and are well established. They cause depredation issues
for ranchers, farmers and condo owners, especially when drought
conditions prevail at higher elevations. The deer come off the mountains
at night to forage and utilize developed water sources. In the morning,
they work their way back up the mountain to bed for the day.
is not as tourist oriented as most Hawaiian Islands, but to me, this is
a positive attribute. I was quite happy to mingle with local farmers
and ranchers. The only drawback is that there were few places to stay
and even fewer places to eat. I rented Pat's family condo for the two
nights I spent on the island. Though there was no air conditioning, it
had floor fans, cable TV and Wi-Fi.
