D. Polke's trophy bongo from Congo- Brazzaville.
By Justin Jones, Assistant Editor
Subscriber D. Polke reports a successful July bongo hunt in the Tala Tala area of Congo-Brazzaville with Jean-Luc Damy's Congo Forest Safaris and PH Christophe Morio. Polke booked his hunt with Cyrus Khodaï of Travels and Expeditions (011-33-613-14-68-21; www.travelsandexpeditions.com
), with whom he connected through agent Russell Selle of Russell Selle Custom Hunts (http://rscustomhunts.com
). In addition to a 30-inch bongo, Polke also took Peters, bay and blue duiker and spent time hunting for yellow-backed duiker and dwarf forest buffalo.
"I got my bongo on the first hour of the first day," Polke writes in Report 10945
. "I also had a great stalk on buffalo that alone was worth the trip and enjoyed exciting hunting and calling for duikers. This is the hardest working bunch of guys you will ever meet, including operator Jean-Luc Damy, who goes on every stalk. We were up at 4:30 am every day, at times hunting until 9:00 at night with only a lunch break. Watching the Baka trackers and their dogs work a track is something to see, and PH Christophe Morio is a top professional. Bring 100% DEET and duct tape to seal pants against the many critters. It's good to have multiple bandanas for sweat as well....
