In June, an Australian subscriber asked for help finding a last-minute replacement moose hunt for this fall. Both he and his wife, who would accompany him, are survivors of recent cancer treatments, and although they are on the mend, neither was up for roughing it in a tent or for miles of walking or horseback riding. They hoped to find something with comfortable, lodge-type accommodations.
We made some calls, but many outfitters simply didn't have hunts available on such short notice. Eventually we came up with a list of possibilities and watched with interest as the subscriber and his wife did their due diligence, zeroing in on a Sept. 24-30 (prime opening week) hunt at Kenauk Nature Reserve (http://kenauk.com
), a 65,000-acre unfenced private property in southwestern Québec, about halfway between Ottawa and Montreal.
Sadly, another medical crisis in the subscriber's family has left this hunt open, and we thought it worth sharing. The price is $7,900 CA (about $6,250 US), including chalet lodging and guiding. Meals can be arranged or you can DIY. This would be an ideal hunt for a parent and child or for a hunter and spouse observer. It's also a great spot for an archery hunt....
