Subscriber D. Detwiler checked in with a report (10778
) on a multistage hunt for three chamois subspecies in Eastern Europe. Detwiler and hunting partner Daniel Soliday (also a Hunting Report subscriber) hunted Slovenia, Macedonia and Romania this past fall for Alpine, Balkan and Carpathian chamois with Joe Jakab's Point Blank Hunts (724-557-4274; www.pointblankhunts.com
"This hunt required a lot of paperwork and logistics for Jakab to arrange multiple border crossings, but he handled it very well. Crossing the borders also required some patience on our part. We had no problems to speak of and enjoyed a great trip in the mountains. Dan and I were aware that there have been some trophy shipment issues with Point Blank in the past, but we both received our skull and horns within 30 days as promised."
In a follow-up email Detwiler told us, "Dan and I were interested in Jakab's advertised 'triple chamois hunt' and after talking with him we decided to book. Jakab accompanies hunters throughout the trip, and hunters have local guides in each area. The trip lasted about two weeks, and we had some time to visit cities and points of interest in between hunts.
"Slovenia has good roads, and access into the Slovenian Alps for chamois is relatively easy. That said, there was still a good bit of climbing required. We saw good numbers of chamois spread out in small groups, and both of us had no problem taking good trophies on the first day of hunting. We stayed in a pleasant mountain lodge and ate meals in a nearby restaurant....
