A completely new development in Tanzania is a community-based conservation project and hunting program in Zanzibar, the main island of an archipelago off the coast of Tanzania. Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region. The conservation and hunting program focuses on several rare duikers found only there.
Safari operator Michel Mantheakis
started researching the area and the species there in 2008. He was joined by Steve Kobrine
in 2009. Together they formed Zanzibar Wildlife Safaris, with Mantheakis as the Tanzanian majority shareholder. After years of work and personal investment, they convinced the government to let them establish the first hunting conservation program in Zanzibar.......
