We think the following is a particularly important reminder for hunters who make the deliberate choice to use weapons (bow, crossbow, muzzleloader, handgun) that add additional challenge to a hunt, or for hunters who have physical limitations that may make it hard for them to mix with other hunters.
Joe Roberts filed a mixed report (9403
) on his early-September caribou hunt in Quebec
with Ungava Adventures
(866-444-3445). Roberts hunted with a bow, and came home empty-handed. "I did not get within 60 yards of a caribou, though we saw 10 to 20 caribou a day," says Roberts. "The bulls we saw looked good in size."
The problem, as Roberts tells us, was "I was constantly being put in behind the caribou, and they knew I was there, which made it impossible to get into position for a shot with a bow. This was repeated every day......
