If you're interested in a reasonably-priced Cape buffalo and elephant hunt with the real chance of taking a BIG jumbo and great buffalo, then subscribers Tom Hillebrand and Tim Herald suggest the Malapati area in southeastern Zimbabwe
. This area has produced a number of elephant in the 70- to 90-pound range and even a 100-pounder
in 2011 (see Article 2650
). It also provides consistent opportunities for 40-inch-plus Cape buffalo. In fact, a 50-incher was taken in 2012. The area is hunted by Nixon Dzingai of SSG Safaris
. Both Herald and Hillebrand hunted with him this season and have some very useful information for fellow subscribers looking for a good elephant/buffalo hunt. Of course, this hunt is not for everyone, and we'll get to why in a moment.
Malapati is bordered by Gonarezhou and Kruger national parks. Elephant and buffalo move back and forth between the hunting areas and the parks. Hunters may choose to pursue elephant in the government hunting areas or in the surrounding communal lands.....
