Last month I reported that a new (and as of then unnamed) safari operator had appeared in Congo-Brazzaville
(see Article 3096), to take over from Gert Saimaan's Congo Safaris. Well, we now know the new operator is Thielman Neethling of Congo Hunting Safari
(011-264-81-128-4134). Neethling is a third-generation rancher and farmer from Namibia, where he has operated Agagia Hunting Namibia (011-264-81-149-3838; http://www.agagia.com/
) for seven years. He has personally hunted twice with Congo Safaris, including the hunt when PH Andre Van Deventer was gored by a forest buffalo. You'll recall I reported on that back in September 2012, (Article 2931), and told you that Saimaan would be stepping in for Van Deventer to finish out the season. It's unclear what happened after that, but this season Neethling has emerged at the helm of the only safari operation we currently know of in Congo-Brazzaville.
I spoke with Neethling by phone just before he left for Congo to inspect operations. He says he is hunting the same area Saimaan had, which you'll recall is also where Eric von Stockenstroom hunted. Neethling tells me he has made a number of improvements at the camp and has others planned.....
