According to Swanepoel, four unfenced ranches, essentially private game reserves, have received permission to hunt this year and in the future without having to get annual approval from the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA). "Quota is still set by ZAWA, and operators must have ZAWA scouts present, but this is a positive move. Essentially, these game ranches are akin to Game Management Areas (GMA), as they lie on the boundaries of national parks or other GMAs," Swanepoel explained in an email.....
